A New Idea

Chapter Forty-six

As she got ready for bed that night, Janelle was thankful Lyssa Thorne Dunlevy was not the murderer. For one thing, she really liked Lyssa.
And for another thing, Janelle might be Lyssa’s daughter-in-law someday.
Janelle smiled, thinking how Ben had gazed into her eyes as he told her goodnight in the back parking lot of Thorne’s. Too bad his parents wanted him to accompany them to Aunt Ida’s house before they slipped away to their hotel in St. Louis.
Janelle pulled the green notebook from her dresser. Clothed in her baby doll pajamas, she sat on the bed and perused the Suspects page.
“Not Lyssa.” She crossed out her name. “Elliot was wrong.”
But who killed Jed Thorne?
Dad thought Howard Chapman killed him. She wrote her dad’s name and drew a line to Howard’s name. But Howard thought Helga did it. She drew a line from Howard’s name to Helga’s. Helga said Corrine was the murderer. Another line.
“And I have no idea.” Janelle sighed. Would this be an unsolved case?
Oh, Lord, she prayed. You know who killed Jed.
She raised her eyebrows. Why hadn’t she thought of that before? God was not only a witness to Jed Thorne’s murder, but He also knew the heart of the killer.
She looked up. “Lord, we need to expose that criminal. And I’ll help You, if You just let me know who it is.” She took a few minutes to pray for each suspect on her list.
A sudden idea made her gasp. “Yosts!”
That was it! Ghosts in the walls.
She would search Jed’s office again, and she would solve this case—not just to prove something to her dad, and not just for Ben’s sake.
With God’s help, Janelle Weaver would bring a murderer to justice.
